tURN SIGNAL PROBLEMS

wOULD SOME ONE PLEASE HELP?????????????

I WAS GIVEN A 1986 MERCEDES 190 E AND I WAS DRIVING AND THE TURN SIGNALS JUST WENT OUT.

tHE BRAKE LIGHTS DO COME ON AS WELL AS THE BACK UP LIGHT.

THE LEFT AND RIGHT TURN SIGNAL HOWEVER DOES NOT DO ANYTHING IT SEEMS TO BE JUST DEAD.

i TRIED LOOKING UNDER THE HOOD BUT TO MY SURPRISE THE LOCATION FOR THE FUSE'S IS WRITTEN IN GERMAN. sO I HAVE NO IDEA IF ITS A FUSE OR WHAT. i WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHERE DOES THE FUSE GO FOR THE SIGNAL OR IS THEIR SOMETHING ELSE I SHOULD KNOW.

I AM A SINGLE FEMALE AND I AM TIRED OF PEPOLE TRYING TO GET OVER ON ME BECAUSE I AM A FEMALE S O I AM ASKING ANY OF MY MERCEDES BROTHER AND SISTER FOR YOUR MUCH VALUED ADVICE??????????????????

PS; MY WINDSHIELD WIPER WAS WORKING REALLY, REALLY SLOW AND THEN IT JUST STOPPED ALTOGTHER TODAY AS WELL, ANY SUGGESTIONS

SINCERLY DANA,

On my car, an '85 300D, the turn signals would not work sometimes because of my hazard light switch. It seems the signals are routed through the switch, or something like that.

I took the button out and cleaned it, and I sanded the metal contacts that were in there a little. There was a lot of wet sand in there and not surprisingly that was the problem.

I'm not sure if your car is set up the same way as mine, but try flicking your hazard lights on and off and then try your turn signals. If you can get them to work at all doing this then you know what the problem is.

I'm not sure how your fuses are set up, but the fuse that controls the turn signals probably copntrols some other things as well, so it's not the first thing I would think of.

Good luck!

ITs you AUX relay. This relay is pretty big, and once it goes, you'll lose funtion or have improrper funtion of, Wipers, Turn Signals, Emergancy Light etc.

Ralph is Right!

Nope. Ralph is right. I just had the same problem. Tried Ralph's suggestion; worked like a charm. Thanks, Ralph!:)

Dana....Is your fuse cover a clear plastic one ? If so.......
The fuses are numbered...as are the relays.
Relay 'D' = Is, headlamp/washers/wipers, located in the additional relay holder mounted on the inner fender in front of main fuse block, with black plastic square cover.

The relays right at the back of the main fuse block are listed as follows...
R1 = Combination relay for wipers/turn/heated rear window.( Biggest relay )
R2 = Windows. ( Alloy cube relay.)
R3 = a/c ( Alloy cube relay.)
R4 = OVPR. ( Tall alloy relay...with fuse on top.)

Fuses get corroded in the holders so try rolling them around in their fittings.
Look for broken strip on the fuses links too. 6 fuses standing up in line like soldiers on one side, are the spares.

The most common component to fail is the combination switch assembly under the steering wheel...the turn/brights/ switch.

Hope this helps.:)

PS....When the big combi relay goes, it usually smells of burnt plastic...pull it out and check.
