Bosch Fuel Distributer: Failure Modes
 

Hi; I see ads for rebuilt fuel distributers (gasoline); exactly how do these fail?
My car is an '86 420; runs fine; I read too much and get worried;maybe I should quit while I'm ahead.

You have a 20 year old car with mostly 20 year old parts...many are going to last the cars complete life!

ON a fuel distributor ther are several things that happen to cause running OR idle problems..

BAD fuel is the number 1 problem...water in the fuel OR dirt...

With that water comes rust. I had to replace one on a Saab because of rust. The metering slots had rusted to the point where too much fuel was being metered at any given position, getting progressively worse with higher airflow.

This was discovered upon dismantling the old part. Note that you can't put it back together.
