And I know many owners of Mercedes Benz automobiles that pre-date the very existence of Lexus, that have given years of trouble free service as well - and whose interior and paint are not faded like those in the Lexus example you provided.

Wow

Ok, I'm new to this forum, but don't mistake me for being new to things automotive.

If this is the kind of trash that this forum hosts, I must think a second time before asking questions/wasting my time reading items listed here.

Is there such thing as a moderator here, or are technical questions usually sideskirted by 6 pages of some seeming punk (didn't even bother to read on to see if the guy repented) starting crap and then the "mature" audience being sucked in to it.

Some one let me know if I should stay around for the next episode.

Thanks,
Steve

No this thread isn't common. I think its slow around here and people are bored.

Once in awhile a "kid" wanders out of his C class forums on MBworld and stirs up trouble. Kind of surprised so many people took the bait.

I would like to think this is a Mercedes Enthusiast forum, NOT a Mercedes bashing forum.
If someone has problems with their car, there are many members here willing to help.
When someone starts a thread entitled " Why NOT to buy a Mercedes ", " it will most likely, not be well received.
Maybe trolls like that should be " shown the door " as soon as they appear.

I totally agree with Manny. I own three Mercedes including a 1995 C280, 2000 ML320 and 2003 C230 Kompressore Coupe. Over the last year, none of these vehicles has been in the shop for any kind of repair.

My ML320 has 58,000 miles on it and I have still not had to even do brakes on it. It was at the MB dealer for the NC State vehicle inspection in November and they said the brakes still look fine. Same for my C280 that I bought used when it was 2 years old. I relined the front brakes at about 40,000 miles and it now has 98,000 miles and I have not had to reline the front brakes and have never done the rears.

Granted I maintain my vehicles but they are reliable enough for me. My 1995 C280 still looks and drives like new. It is an extremely solid and rattle free. The materials still look like new. This is all something that you would not see in other makes.

I drive a Mercedes because it is a Mercedes. Even when it is old it still commands "prestige" something that other old cars do not. Even though my 1995 is 11 years old I still feel good driving it, something I would not if I were driving another car. A Mercedes has a certain driving feel that is not duplicated by other brands.

I will not go on, but I will say one thing further. You look at Consumer Reports reliability graphics for my vehicles and this is not my experience. I have come to be suspect of the way CU reports their findings over the past few years and look at their results in an educated way. If you were to look at CU Reports you would never buy a lot of higher priced and custom products. For example, A SubZero refrigerator that has tremendous value in its design for purpose would never be purchased because it has "poor" reliability.

If you want to drive an economy car, go ahead, I am just tired of hearing you complain about something you don't seem to want!

I did absolutely everything on time and no cost was ever spared to get everything just right. I have “perfect books” to prove it, but my car still leaks just about everything from everywhere and of course it also needs the wiring harness. Sure it will last, since I will most likely keep paying to keep it running, but it is just a bunch of s**t that these cars need so much at 100K. Mine is still kind of cool somehow and it is gorgeous, but it leaks just about everything from just about everywhere.

Looks good in side profile, but leaks from all over the place

Hatteras, I agree with you 100%. The guy who posted right before you has already wasted quite bit of bandwith at BenzWorld complaining about his W124.

I really, really, really don't get it--if my car gave me so much trouble, I'd sell it and be done with it.

Oh well.

Fact is, if you dont take care of your car the way it was designed to be taken care of then by complaining you are shifting the blame, not to say that these carmakers never make mistakes...and frankly Mercedes Benz has taken a nosedive in quality since the Chrysler integration...but I still have faith in the engineering! And the Utmost faith in anything touched by the hands of AMG's side of the house!
Yea just watch the next e-class look like a second generation 300C and the HEMI engine re-badged as AMG(alrite joking about the second comment)....and all made in the US of A. When dodge get's into trouble, just watch the platform sharing come into effect across the board. Why build new factories for new parts when you can share from mercedes?

Well lexus didn't fully debut until 1990... Mercedes made great car's until then. But during the time frame in which lexus has existed againest mercedes, they have more happy owners, better reliabilty, and more return buyers then mercedes. They have often during these years scored higher in many magz and expert articles, and lexus been rated the most reliable brand for years now, even higher then parent company Toyota.

So you can't compare a bullet proof 70's and 80's mercedes with the newer jap lux. brands such as Lexus and Acura which debuted in the 90's. You have to compare a 90's Benz to a 90'z Lexus. THat's where the difference in these debates and opinions arise from.

Zenith made great TV's in the 70's an 80's, now even walmart won't carry them. Times change. So have car's.

This forum is great. Best around. But this is a free country and everyone has a right to share their thoughts. The rest is upto you to relize its a waste of your time and you should stop reading, but I guess it wasn't and you read all 6 pages of it and then took time out to respond to it....lol.

This topics purpose is for everyone to share their mercedes problems with some sort of technical backing, and if someone thinks their wrong, they can back it up with their thoughts. It's simple. Sometimes the average person just wants an average post to be part of. Not everyyone wants to talk about the inside of their mercedes transmission but rather how their transmission is acting up and search for clues....So have fun and smile.

p.s. I know your a board regular and made another account to grill me, but it's all good. You were born yesterday, I was born two days ago
