Driver's power seat stuck...

in the down (back) and forward position (seat). I did a search and there is not a real solution for my problem. I disassembled and cleaned the switch with no luck. I believe it is the switch because the motors were working but, in only one direction...I will order a new seat switch but, if that does not work, the only other way is to remove the seat. The problem is, I can not get to the front bolts since they are covered by the seat. Anybody has suggestions for a cure or how to remove the seat...?

You can jump the seat swith motors by touching the contacts at the motors on the power and ground if the switch is bad.

You can use a 12 volt cordless drill batter with wires attached to power and ground of the battery and jump them to the power and ground on the seat motors.

Just play with them till you get it moving the right way, then you can access your seat hold down bolts.

Sometimes I have had motors jam up, and the solution was to push alot of my body weight in the direction that I was intending to move the seat.

I do have a question though, Have you checked all the fuses?
Check for wear marks on the fuses, you may need to replace them if contacts are worn.

Thanks for the reply...

I did check all the fuses. The passenger's seat is working just fine. I just got the new switch and...it did not solve the problem!
It is going to be difficult to reach the seat motors since the seat stuck all the way forward and the back rest rest all the way back...Picture that in your mind. I am not a contorsionist so I may have to use all my weight and move in the same direction I want the seat to go...Hopefully, it will work...

It was a bi**** to get to the front bolts but, I did it. It is late and dark, tomorrow morning will take a look and troubleshoot the seat electrical components.

Let me continue with my own replies...

I took the seat out and now I bench tested all the motor and they are working fine...after disconnecting the memory seat control unit under the seat. Since everything connects to this part...by the method of elimination, it all points to this control unit. The part number is: 124 820 00 26. By the way, if you do search in Fast lane, the part number will bring the seat switch and a pump. They are not the correct part...
Does anybody know how to test it...or have one lying around you want to sell...?
The saga continues...

I did jump the motors...

The seat is now in the upright position but, outside the car. Once I put in back in, I do not know if I could get to it from under the seat...Like you said, there is a lot of electronics under the seat!
Since I have a couple of tears in the MB tex, I may buy a complete used seat from a junk yard. However, I do not know if the controls are compatible...
Does anybody know...?

Thank for the reply a2t...

well it should be pretty simple to swap, as long as it dimensionally fits...i know i know...nothing is simple on these things!

What wires did you jump to get seat height in front raised?

Well, the latest news is...

I bought a whole seat from a '88 that looks in decent shape.Since I am going out of town tomorrow, I won't be able to install it until this coming weekend. Hopefully, they are compatible...
I jumped the "m2" motor for the front seat height adjustment. I can not remember which one, out of the three under the seat, it is right now but, when I test the seat again I will post...

Ifixed the power seat...

For a2t I jumped m2. In the picture, m2 is the top motor on the left hand side.
If somebody needs parts from the drivers seat. Let's talk... I know the seat "brain" is broken...

Update!

Everything was fine with my seat until...yesterday. The seat back would move backwards intermittently but not forward. Since I have all "new" parts. I did some more investigating. Since it was intermittently I check for continuity for all the wires from the switch to the motor under the seat. Everything checked out fine. However, while checking continuity, I looked at one the holes where the pins make contact with under the seat. It was loose (or too wide) to make good contact with. I did tighten it up and used some contact cleaner, put everything together and now the seat is working fine.
I now have a spare seat and switch with working parts. If you need any seat part, let me know, I will let them go cheap. E-bay may be next...

Good luck!
