just bought a 81 mercedes 300sd with 652K miles, yes 652K!! and the sunroof wont open . any thoughts?

Talk about what happens when you use the switch.
Do you hear any noise at all ?
If you do then the switch is sending electricity and your problem may be
electric motor or cable.

No noise ?
Maybe the switch should be pulled out, disassembled, cleaned.

In the trunk on the left side, near the hinge, is a hex head the size
of the tire lug nut. This can be used to manually open and close
the sun roof. Using this to operate it will tell you if the cable is intact.

And I suppose the fuse should be checked, the list of which fuse does
what is on the fusebox under the hood on left side.

Somewhere down the road if you determine it is the sunroof cable or
motor, no problem, easy to replace (and reasonable).

check fuse. if good then maybe take the motor out and put it to the battery an and see if it works.

if it doesn't u need a new motor, and your in good luck! i have one for sale in the parts forum

if it does see if the wires are getting power when u hit the switch using a multimeter.
