License Plate Bulb Replacement -- 98 E320
In tracking down a "defective bulb" message on the FSS display, I found one of my license plate bulbs was out. Looked like a simple job. The cover over the three bulbs was secured with three phillips screws. Took those out, removed the cover and was down to the lenses.
There's no apparent way to remove the lense and get at the bulb itself. After looking at some similar posts, I saw a couple of posts that said the bulbs can only be accessed by removing the trunk lid liner. If that's the case, I'll certainly try it, but I have two questions: 1. What's the point of the removable outside cover over the license plate bulbs, if you can't get to the bulbs from there? 2. On the trunk lid liner, there are about a dozen little black plastic plugs. Do thse just pull out? Or how do they work? From these questions, you can see I'm not much of a mechanic, but surely even I can replace a bulb!!! It sure beats paying a technician $85/hr... Thank you. Larry Silvey Austin, Texas |

Many times this procedure is explained in owner's manual.
