CIS Distributor Test

Greetings Forum Members,

I just tested my ignition distributor to trouble shoot a no start problem with my 1985 280sl.
According to the manual my ohmometer should read 600 ohms +/- 100ohms
when connected to each lead on the distributor that receives the plug of the green lead from the switching unit. My reading was 576 ohms.
Per manual the ohm reading with either of these leads tested against ground should read greater than or equal to 200k ohms. My reading was 0 ohms for both leads.
The manual instructs to replace the distributor if these readings are not attained.
What does the 0 ohm reading indicate is wrong with my distributor?
Can the distributor be repaired.
A new from the dealer is $900+.

Thanks,

Knarf
