1990 300SE Fan pulley

Hi All,
I need to replace a part - I started my beautiful MB up and heard a loud underhood noise - it was the plastic fan striking an adjacent pulley.
Upon further investigation I found the pulley behind the fan clutch is cocked and out of alignment (with the rest of the PTO pulleys which the serpentine belt drives).
Is this just an idler pulley which drives the fan?
Can I replace the pulley bearign or do I have to replace the entire part bolted to the block?
Also, any recommendations on where to purchase?
Thanks in advance,
Rob

Robert:

Perhaps this photo will help you identify the part that you suspect. There are a lot of possibilities.

Thanks to all - you guys pegged it!
It seems the bearing has failed.
Aside from purchasing a new Fan Clutch Bearing Bracket, can I purchase the bearing only and press in?
Thanks again for your help and all the replies.
Rob

Don't think so -- you'll need to replace the piece as shown...

I couldn't find a bearing calling around to machine shops and visiting a bearing supplier. Maybe if you had an inside contact at a place like that they could find a way for you but when you get it a apart and look at it you will see that it is really a factory fit bearing bracket. Used is a risk but if you can fing one for less than $50.00 including the pulley and idler arm pulley it might be worth the risk.

The only good thing about it is you get a chance to clean up and inspect a lot of the front block.

There are at least two, distinctively shaped, bearing brackets for the M103 engine. Be sure the part is matched to yoiur VIN or you see a picture of the part before you get one shipped.

No need to get so technical. One is up to 1989, the other is from 1990 -- easy as pie.

Right. So don't buy one of those if you get a used one.
