loss of power @ take-off
I am the owner of a 89 420 SEL, the problem is this , when I drive the car all seems good from the first take-off but when I stop @ a light or slow to make a turn ,when I hit the gas the car loses power but does not shut off it kind of stumbles for a bit then power kicks back in
I just put new plugs in changed the oil the problem still remains car has 168,000 miles and I have no maint. rec. all replys will be gr8ly welcomed if anymore questions are needed just ask. |
try using fuel additive like chevron techron to clear up the fuel system. That helped in instances where I had this issue.

Blocked fuel filter?

my 86 420SEL was doing that intermittently...a new OVP relay for $88 plugged right in and has apparently fixed the problem.

Do you know the official part number? Thanks. Sounds to me like the right answer. |
I think the part # varies by model and year. Mine was a gray box with a red lid and a 10 amp fuse inside the lid on the firewall next to some other black relay boxes. I placed the order with my friendly Mbz parts dept at the dealership where I work, and they handed me one the same day. This is not a catch-all cure, but it has seemingly worked for me.

My understanding is that OVP refers to over voltage protection. There are multiple threads in the DIY section that refer to OVP problems, some pertaining to failed emission tests and poor drivability.

Yikes...mine stumbled today. I was stopped at a light, with my foot on the brake. I heard/felt a little thump, the idle speed dropped slightly, and when the light turned green, the car stumbled and stuttered when I tried to pull away. I drove about 100 miles today, and it only did it once, but it does irritate me. The OVP must not have fixed anything.
