Transmission Input Shaft Housing Gasket?
Is there a gasket that goes on the housing that the input shaft goes through in a manual 5spd 190E 2.6 transmission. I know there is a round seal for the input shaft, but what about that housing that you can unbolt? I took mine apart to measure something and there seems to be some sort of old material there. It could just be old gasket sealant, but I thought I would check before I put mine back together. Thanks!

It has been a long time since I rebuilt a MB standard transmission.
If the bell housing is also the input bearing support, one piece, look at the area it bolts to, the case, if you see any lube holes in the area behind the bell housing, use a gasket. If the bell housing is a two piece design also use a gasket around the input bearing support. Some times the gasket is used as an adjustment shim. If you have the front apart, be safe and order the right parts to seal the front of the transmission. |
