98 E320 Sunroof Repair

I am attempting to repair a stuck sunroof on my 1998 E320. I know there are problems with the cable guides on this model. I think I can do the repair for the cable guides, but my immediate problem is this: Somehow the two cables got out of sync. The left side is always about a half-inch ahead of the right side. When the roof pops up, the left side is higher than the right. This presents a serious problem because the roof does not close completely.

I think, from what I have read on this forum and elsewhere, that it might be possible to re-sync the cables by removing the sunroof motor, manually moving the sunroof to the fully extended position, then reinstalling the motor. But can anybody explain how to remove the motor?
