126 - Replacing Fitted Fuel Hoses Near Fuel Tank

2 Attachment(s)
Need to replace the "return-line-to-tank" hose - straight fitting hose and the smaller of the two in the two files below and the larger "fuel-tank-to-damper" which really goes from tank to fuel pump.

The fitted metal ends thread into the bottom of the chassis which sits HIGHER than the top of the tank reservoir.

With a near empty fuel tank, how much fuel can I expect to have pouring out when these two hoses are removed?

Thanks for your time.

When I was putting the engine back in my 420 SEL last week, I noticed the lines under the driver's door were all rusted at one of the rubber supports. I took a while but I spliced all of them with new line and fittings. (It would have been MUCH simpler with the engine still out.) The fuel lines are much lower than the tank at this point and I siphoned as much as I could out through the filler. I got about half a cup when I cut the line. Probably won't be any different at the back.

I'm talking about a different area altogether - back of car at fuel tank - not the fuel lines under the car.

That's what I said. It is a lower position so it probably won't be much different at the back next to the tank.

Disconect the lines first and drian whatever comes out into a jerry jug. With a near empty tank their is probably still 3-4 gallons in it.

Btw I used aftermarket rubber lines, they fit ok next time I will just buy the right hoses from the dealer. They fit much, much better.

Hi Mike

I'm going to do the same repair on my 300SE. I have all the fitted hoses and the pump/filter mount as well. You might consider changing the engine compartment hoses, the ones that go from the front bulkhead to the gas cooler and the fuel distributor CIS body. I'm going to get those as well.
