What is this part, and where can I find one?
 

Returning from town, this afternoon, and began to get loud exhaust noises from under the hood. By the time I drove about five miles, the noise was very loud. Still plenty of daylight left, and I determined the noise was coming from the area underneath the air cleaner assembly.

When I removed the air cleaner, I found a break in the part of the exhaust that is an accordian-shaped piece, bolted to the back of the turbo, then to the front of the flex exhaust pipe. I have been to Fastlane, and see no part listed by Phil that sounds as if it is what I am looking for. I do not want to chance doing damage to the turbo, and can't abide all that racket.

Someone please clue me in. TIA.

I meant to mention I have an '80 300SD, 617 engine.

part # 617 142 00 59 flexible metal tube? Between two flanges just aft of the turb?

Call Phil. Dealer or wrecker's might be the way.

Thanks for the quick response, 007. Phil has it on order for me from MB. Less than fifty bucks, and I didn't know MB had anything that cheap. What a great forum this is. I have wired it up to keep it or the flex pipe from falling off.

What time, next Saturday, will you be here to help install?
