M103 300E 260E hose between water pump & head. $600! Huh?!?
The small hose between the thermostat housing and cylinder head on my 1988 260E has developed a hole. I have been told by my mechanic that either the cylinder head or water pump must come off to replace this hose.
Is that correct? Is there another way to get a new hose on here without six hours of labor? |
Six hours is a little steep, but since the alternative is pulling the waterpump, one can cut a small portion from the waterpump pipe and get the hose in there. Do not cut the pipe from the head. The gap without cutting is about 3/8in. I think I have only done it once but another half inch can be cut and still leave plenty of pipe and with some effort a hose can be installed.
If you find it doesn't work you haven't lost much as I'd replace the water pump if I took it off anyway unless it is REAL new. |
This is not what I would do, but for those who would.........

All I have to say is...
You can buy a lot of hoses for $600.00...
