Headlights and fanbelt
 

I have a 230E 1984 MB. I have two main problems. First is that my fanbelt keeps getting cut. The last time I replaced it was last month. It just got cut today. what could be the cause of this?
Second problem is that my High beam does not work. All the other lights are working.

Anybody.. ineedhelp.

With regard to the fanbelt, possibly a siezed or very tight pulley?

I made sure that the belt size is exactly the same with the one i replaced. Can it be that the alternator is not properly aligned?

Inspect how the belt is cut...is it sheared, worn off, or just shredded?

Do you hear any noises while the belt travels along the pulleys?

I kinda go with Parrot of Doom...could be a seized pulley. There are two with clutches...the A/C compressor and the air pump. I can't recall if the fan clutch is directly coupled to the engine or if it rides the pulley configuration...

Stand to the side and look along the pulleys - they should be aligned. Or use a straight edge to double check. If alignment is not the problem see the above posts.

about the high beams...

Have you checked the fuses? Have you checked the bulbs? Corrosion? The low and high beam should share a ground, so that could be ok.

When you switch to high beam, do all the lights just go out?

I got my fanbelt fixed. had it aligned and changed it to the right size.

With my headlights, when I switch to high beam, all my lights turns off. what could possibly be the problem?

Mine too. When i flip the lever to high beam, the low beam headlights kick off and no high beams. I havent figured it out on my 89 190E yet, but I think it is the steering column switch. I will swap it out with another 190E and see if thats it. I guess the other really simple thing would be that it came unplugged under the dash somewhere.
