1992 500SL OBD location

Where is the OBD physical location on a 1992 500SL , california car.
My 1992 300E had an OBD located next to the battery.

No OBD on pre 1996, only a proprietary MB diagnostic connector.

It is OBDII that became a requirement, in 1996. Before that there was OBDI which is on this car. And actually quite a few cars adopted OBDII early in 1994 and 1995. This car was right on the break between a 16 pin connector and a 38 pin connector both of which would be located in the rear passenger side of the engine compartment. If it's a 38 pin it would be covered by a round black plastic cap. In either case you can read codes with Arthur Dalton's code reader - you will find plenty with a search.

Clearly you have either a 16 or a 38 pin diagnostic connector. The Baum manual shows a 92 500SL (129.066) as having a 16 pin connector so that's probably what it is. It is probably covered by a black plastic cap and it should be in the rear of the engine compartment on passenger side. Perhaps if you posted a picture someone could spot it.

Although written for a W140, much of this applies to your car as well...
