300E blower off/onn
 

Just got my first Mercedes, an '89 300e. To be brief the blower motor wasn't working and I was told by a well-respected local Mercedes tech that it was shot and the job would cost $500. Bought one on ebay for $75 and my mechanic discovered it was only a bad ground. He fixed that (leaving orig. blower in). Now it won't go off. The controls don't seem to do anything (climate control dial DOES change temperature, though) - no manual so I don't know how to operate it anyway.
Any theories?

I am not an electrician, but it sounds like a resistor problem in the CCU...someone who has had a similar problem should be able to chime in.

Could it have something to do with the regulator also in the evaporator box?

I know the connector from the blower motor has three wires and I think one has something to do with the regulator.

The blower circuit is a switched ground through the regulator, so if he grounded it , it will not switch off now and it will also only run at high speed .

That is correct - it seems to be running full blast and the controls don't do anything. He grounded it to where some other grounds were - but why was it not running before he did that?

Grounding it takes the regulator control out of the circuit.
It is just a cheap fix for a bad reg or Control Panel.

How can I make it stop until I have a chance to get it worked on? Can I pull a fuse that doesn't affect anything else?

It has it's own fuse link [ outside fuse box]
