We all know that the engine can be tuned, and once tuned, it's purrfect.

On the same note, can an auto-transmission be tuned to produce the same kind of smoothness and purrfection?

The coordination of the modulator pressure & control pressure cable is it!! BOTH can be adjusted . Start with small changes & try going both directions. JUST remember this; too smooth of a shift on a Benz trans is causing some wear to clutch packs. OVER time this is why they LOOSE 4th gear & slip.

Thanks MBDoc ... but when you said "too smooth of a shift on a Benz trans is causing some wear to clutch packs" - does this mean that MB tranny is NATURALLY not-so-smooth?

I guess we're doing right when we adjust the clutch release cable, and the modulator in the hope of getting the smoothest tranny shift. I was hoping we could somehow hook this whole system into some kinda system (like electronic tuning) and try getting the best efficient and smoothest tranny shift. All done electronically?
