Uh-oh, SEC is a W126, isn't it? I was thinking W123. I've seen several 123's at local salvage yard (used parts supplier) with good exterior mirrors. I've been thinking that I may get a replacement right hand mirror on my 81 300D, and may be able to get a left one for you at same time. In fact, I just remenbered: I have a left mirror from '85 SEL (W126) in my attic - I'm suddenly thinking it may be same as yours. (I needed a left front door several years ago on my 91 350 SDL (W126), and I used a door from and '85 SEL; I have the mirror from it.) Describe your miror; does it have gray plastic on front side, etc? This one does.

Looks like part # on the one I have is 126 810 45 16; manually adjusted; elec. wires going in it - possibly for heating? Almost perfect cond. - small 1/8" by 1/4" scratch near outer edge of gray plastic, front cover.

there are no wires on mine..its non electric and non heated for the drivers side.
the coupes and sedans have different mirrors the part number from the dealer is 126-810-11-16-7175 and 126-811-03-60-7174 that is for the housing and the mirror itself. Benzat 1982 380 SEC |
BTW, the part # is on surface thats mounted up against the door, by the upper mounting screw - you have to remove the mirror to seed the #.

there is grey on the back side of the housing to match the car. and its black on the plastic part

'Don't have to use heating, of course. IMPCO cat. shows same mirror for "All models to 1985 except 500SEC; Pre-1982 requires mirror control knob". This one has control knob, of coursee.
My thought was that sedan & coupe may be different, but note the IMPCO comment. I don't know - not sure. This one is the entire assembly, of course. |
Black rubber around the outer edges of the part sticking out around the mirror, itself (mirror housing); black rubber, triangular-shaped area up against the door and covering the "hinge" ("break-away") mechanism.
|
Should IMPCO cat. say "--- except ALL SEC's"? 'Don't know.
|
the rubber piece is just fine I can not control the movement of the mirror and the state inspection of VA wont pass the car because of that.
Ill have to try a few other places on Monday thanks for your help hope you can help me in the future when I get down to having this thing restored. Benzat 1982 380 sec |
just a warning about getting parts from IMPCO they dont always work..and dont look like OME products. so they dont always fit the way they are suppose to be. I spend more time sending things back then it was worth to order.
If you have a Bap Geon around the products are much better and alot less expensive than Imco. benzat 1982 380 SEC |
