Mercedes Benz Fuel Additive
 

After more than a decade of saying that MBs dont require any fuel additives/cleaners, they are now selling their own Fuel Additive.

Years ago a friend of mine, who managed an MB dealership, told me to add a cup of ATF to the fuel of my 300TD. Suggested I do this every second or third tankfull. He indicated that this was approved by MBZ. I buy it at the 99 cent store and haven't had any problems for 15 years and 200,000 miles, with the fuel system.

I use BG 44k once a year in all of my cars.

I try to get 5 or 6 cans at a time on Ebay...usually get it for about 13-15 a can shipped.

The MB dealer (and my local parts shop) sells a special MB additive which sells for around $12 per 100ml. It's apparently a cleaner and octane booster and one capful is good to treat 40 litres. No idea what's in it as there's no label on the bottle but its brown and quite oily. Been around for a while and I think its to do with the fact that the local petrol has always been fairly low octane, 88 I believe. Unleaded fuel with 95 octane rating was introduced in the last few years but good old leaded fuel is still 88 so maybe it's to compensate for that.

I have always used Cheveron Tectron fuel injection cleaner . More expensive that the Mercedes-Benz brand on this post but never any damage to my engines.

If you use Chevron gas all the time, you'll accomplish the same thing.

It's one of few "Top Tier" fuels.

The fuel quality here is horrible. The dealer's manager recommended the MB additive you mention (which they sell). After a while both cars started to behave weird on cold starts.

Stopped using the fuel additive and everything went back to normal.

Maybe the motto to never use any additive on M.B. engines is going around for a reason.

That additive Park Place is slinging is called Keropur and it is made by BASF.
We used it here as a trial for M271 cyl head carbon reduction and found
it did absolutely nothing. However cost is under $3 a can, so you get what
pay for. We have now been told by Service Engineering to use Chevron
Techron Concentrate Plus Synthetic fuel cleaner only. It is being added to MB's list of approved products for service.
This stuff works great and will really clean up pistons and valves after only
2 tank treatments.
It comes in 20 and 12 gal treatment sizes.

What about Lucas gas treatment? My local MB indy shop likes it and uses it. I have been using it for a while. Now obviously I can't see the valves so I don't know if it works, but their reputation is pretty strong.

Do these additives have any effect on gas lines or the fuel pumps?

Is there a trade off between the ability of a product to clean deposites and the longevity of parts?

Anyone know how these products work? is it a mechanical effect, of literally blasting away debris or is it a chemical reaction that reacts with the offending deposites and either softens or changes it?
