Doing springs/shocks soon.. Spring compressor?

I was going to do the springs this afternoon on my sisters 91 190E, but my regular spring compressor that ive used on mac strut setups wont work because these coils are too close for the clamp to fit on. Do I need to get an internal compressor for these? What about the rears..there is no hole below the spring to access the inside if I were to use an internal style compressor. Any advice would be great guys.. im used to working on my audi's and they are quite a bit different.

Generally, MB springs require special compressors. Use either the MB tool, or I believe one made by Klann or Sir Tools (?) are acceptable. None of the others will work, at least not with an acceptable margin of safety.

The fronts always require spring compressors to R&R springs, with the rears it may be possible to unbolt the control arm and slowly lower the arm until the spring falls out.

Why are you replacing the springs? Unless sagging, they generally last the life of the vehicle.

Thanks

Ill have to look into the source to buy them thanks. The rears are sagging quite a bit. So she got some intrax sports for the car.. Ive never used intrax but hear they are decent for street use. Itll make the stance a little better with her 17" ATS wheels too.

Here's a link to the spring compressor. I bought one from this guy, works great.

Performance Products rents the MB spring compressor tool. I think I payed about $70 plus a deposit for a three week rental. I think they only rent them via phone, not thru the web site.

This may or may not be the same tool, but a bit cheaper. Sometimes they are listed as low as $190.
