1988 300 te
My 300 te with 116 k has developed a problem as the weather is starting to warm up. On warmer days, above 35 degrees once warmed up the car will sometimes die while driving, this happens at highway and city speeds. At times I can keep it going by going to neutral and playing with the throttle but eventually it does die. It always restarts instantly but may die 1 hour later again or 5 minutes later. On cold days of say 20 degrees this does not happen. I recently drove 220 miles on a cold day without a problem yet 2 days later when the temperature was in the high 30's it would die at various time intervals. Any ideas.

'88 300TE stalling, rough running
Hey, mine does the same thing, only when the temps are in the 90's here in the Deep South... Seems like it comes and goes, occasionally associated with a bump, sharp turn, rough dirt road (!), etc. so it's problably the engine wiring harness or perhaps some vacuum issues. I've got a nice parts car that runs flawlessly (totallednly the good die young) but haven't found the time to swap anything... The burning oil smell from the leaky timing chain cover is the first problem to address!
Good Luck! abh3 01 E320 Wagon 88 300TE pcikups, boats, motorcycles, tractors, etc... |

On mine driving rough roads and taking sharp corners makes no difference. The same piece of highway with different temperature results in 2 different cars even though they are running at the same temperature.
