sold my 560sl today..next the E420..
With mixed feelings I sold my 86 560sl with 200k on the clock. Watched it leave today. I now have my 97 E420 108k for sale. I would love to hear suggestions as to what I should look at next. I should have around 20-22k that I could put into a used vehicle. I also have a friend going to the Atlanta high line auction coming up on Wed. Any ideas? I need to have a 4 door for my work. I sort of like the C230k's. I would appreciate your thoughts.

Too bad ya missed my 2000 540i. Sold it for $21,000 about a month ago. Absolutely the best 4 door car I have ever owned. Even better than the 97 540i I had before it.
The court is still out as to whether the 04 545i I bought to replace it is as nice a car. The BMW will break and cost a bunch to fix, but there just isn't any comparison as a driving machine. A number of MBs go as fast, none have the presence on the road.

Interesting insight from a Mercedes techincian...
If I had 20k to throw on a used car with 4 doors and a 3 pointed star. I'd be looking for a 2000+ E430. You should be able to purchase a low miles ~50k or so 2000 or 2001 E430 for right around 20 - 22k.

I bought my 2000 E430 with about 75,000 miles on ebay a year ago for just over $18,000.

I am kind of partial to the C230 sport sedan. I think they are about the best value you can get for the money and I would guess that the used ones are starting to fall into your price range.

For $20k if you go to an auction you might be able to snag a W211 E320. I have seen them listed for $28k and you know the dealer got it a bunch cheaper at the auction.

Well an 2003/4, probably an 03 though. I think the E350 replaced the 320 in 05 or 06.

On the C230k..has anyone experienced that this car is underpowered? I know its a 4 banger but I've heard from a few of you that it is fast..and others its underpowered..thanks for your comments.

Yes, the E500 would be very nice but I think that is out of my price range unless you loan me about 10k.
