I did my 3 month maintance on my 300E and I took the suggestion of putting 15W-40 oil in my engine insted of the regular 10W-30. In the short term the car runs alot better with this oil then any other oil I tried. The start up is alot better (This could be that it is above 10 degrees C outside), but the car does run better!

Interesting ... watch the oil color through to your next oil change. I woudn't be surprised if it gets dirtier earlier than you are used to. My guess the cleaning qualities of this oil.
300ESUPER, I also believe your change to a 40wt contributes to an earlier stronger oil pressure. BTW, the 91 300e had a similiar problem "Shaking problem on start up 1989 300E" and I hunted, just as you, for the cause. It turned out to be a bad coil. Go figure. The new coil (after 240k miles) put it back where it was running properly. Haasman

Engine coil, the one that sparks the spark plugs.

Diesel oil
Haasman,
Nice idea about the diesel oil. Question however. I am running 15W50 Mobil 1 synthetic in my '90 300e w/191K mi. Do you know if I can run diesel oil for a cycle (3000 mi.), then drain and replace w/my synthetic again (which I change at 7,500 mi. intervals)? |

I am sure that you can. The synthetics are supposed to be completely compatible.
It is my understanding that the synthetics clean quite well, but in relation to the 15w-40 weight, I don't know. Haasman
