Rain Sensor wipers

I am having the windshield replaced on my 1996 S600.
The glass shop wants to know if I have rain sensing wipers. I told him I did not know. I have had the car for years and did not know this feature existed.
There is a large black type of knob on the drivers side of center near the rear view mirror. Also, the windshield has a portion there that is small black dots.
Can anyone tell me which windshield I need.

Thank you in advance......Bill

i don't believe this was available in 1996, look on the outer part of the windshield infront of the rear view mirror, is there a sensor there? likely not.

Rain sensor?

I once had a new S500 service loaner, I think it was a '95, and it had a rain sensor. It loks like a little lens on the back of the mirror assembly on the glass.

Why don't you just ask your dealer about it? And ask who does their glass work. This has to be an insurance job, anyway. BTW, my C320's windshield was replaced with a non-MB PPG glass last summer and the rain sensor works fine. It's part of the glass.

actually it is a seperate unit that is glued directly to the glass, they likely needed to know if it has the sensor so the glass would have the proper without tint to attach the original sensor. if it applies.

Rain Sensor

Of course it's bonded to the inside of the glass. The windshield comes from PPG with that done.
