Q's regarding swap and purchase of used M117...
Okay, since the demise of the M116 in my 420SEL (not worth the cost to rebuild topend) I've decided to pick up a lower mileage M117 motor to drop in.
First, the M117 is a direct swap for my M116 correct? I plan to yank the trans with the motor to assist in labor on my end and lower mile parts. Next, the M117 I am probably going to purchase has around 140K miles on it. Since it will be out, should I replace all of the chain guides with the chain and tensioner too? Anything else I should consider while the motor is out? Maybe oil pan gasket? Rear/front main seal? |
IF you get a 560SEL or SEC engine then that should be a bolt-in that requires very few changes. Make sure that the 560SEL motor has exhaust manifolds & crossover pipe.
Yes, the timing chain & rails are a good idea. ALSO all of the "rubber" hoses & o-rings at the intake area should be checked & replaced. ALSO take the oil subpan off & look at the oil pump chain & install a new o-ring on the oil level sensor connection. |
Very few changes including what?
What should I look for on the oil pump + chain? Thanks! :D |
Motor with trans is at my house, $227 out the door with tax for the both with 110935K mi. I will be doing this swap in about two to three weeks.
Should I grab the computer also from the passenger side kick panel? I have the ignition module too. Another thing I noticed is I will have to remove the SLS pump off the front cover and swap on my 420 cover. Seems pretty simple. |
