both of my front seat belt buckles are broken in front from being slammed in the doors. can I just replace the buckle or do I have to replace a whole assembly? is this a DYI job?
thanks! adam |
These come only as a complete assembly (not inclucing the female end) and include the SRS tensioning device, so aren't exactly cheap. If your only concern is the belt end sliding down and having to go fishing for it, BMW used to use a clip on their seatbelts to serve this purpose (a long time ago, like in the '70's). I believe they are still available. If there is any question re. the integrity of the latch, REPLACE IT!

Is it such a bummer than it comes only in a complete assembly, even in Malaysia.

I will be attempting to replace my buckle with a buckle from a salvage yard, but then my system is simple. I just have to undo the bolt and slide the broken one off of the strap and then slide the new one on, I think. I will try to post back if I'm successful. It is a '79 300SD.

Do share with us your success story and whether it was much hassle getting the required part from the salvage yard and for how much?
