Angry Help: Changed tranny fluid; car won't move

After 4 yrs and 60k miles, I decided to change the transmission fluid/filter this morning on a 2002 C320 wagon. I dropped the pan, and drained about 3 liters of fluid, but did not attempt to drain the converter. After installing a new filter and gasket, I slowly refilled two litres of fluid (MBZ fluid part no. 001-989-21-03-10) and started the car in order to shift gears and circulate the fluid. I couldn't get the car to go into gear. Thinking that the fluid must be too low, I put in the 3rd and last liter of fluid. Tried to shift gears for a good 15 minutes, but the car is stuck in neutral.

Does anyone have any ideas. Any input would be gladly appreciated.

Thanks. Tom

Do you have the tool, Dip stick to measure the fluid level, did the new filter have a sealing ring on the neck.
Check the old filter neck, does it still have the old seal on it. Did the old filter look like the new one

Hello C32AMG:

Problem is that the tranny fluid doesn't seem to be getting down into the sump. I just took the trans pan off again, and there is very little fluid down there. I don't have the MB "tool" to measure the fluid level, but I know I took out a bit more than 3 liers of fluid, and I put back that and then some (to compensate for spillage on the floor). Old trans filter and the new one are identical.

Now I'm wondering if I put the new fluid down the correct filler pipe. The pipe I used was on the passenger side of the car, near the firewall at the back of the block. I visually traced the filler pipe down, and it seems to be going into drivetrain around the torque converter....I can see the precise entry point because my field of view is blocked. The filler pipe I used had a reuseable black-colored plastic plug, part no.137-010-03-35.

While the pan is removed make sure the filter has the seal on the neck and that it is push all the way up, that sounds like the right fill tube; Too make sure pour a little fluid in the tube with the pan down. If the transmission worked before the filter oil change, something is not installed right. The fitter is not it all the way, or you need more fluid.

Once you have verified all of the above, I would reinstall the pan add more fluid

MB removed the dipstick on this model because fluid level is so important that it can't be left to those not knowing what they are doing. Among other things, even with the proper stick the fluid is only to be gauged at particular temperatures.
