Sorry for the non-tech post. There should be a stupid questions forum for questions like this.
Just as 500Es are becoming affordable, I was disappointed to learn that it's a 4 seater. There isn't even a habitable surface like in the 2.3-16. Since the C36s and C43s I see are moving too fast to get a good look, are they also 4 seaters or are they 5 seaters. Kinda pointless in a smallish car, but such things matter to me. And does the sport package such as on the W124 and W210 delete the rear middle seating position? Thanks, Sixto 78 450SEL 91 300SE family of 5 |

sixto,
The sport package in the W124 and W201 does not delete the rear middle seating possition. The W202 C36 AMG was available with the regular rear seat (5 seater) and the 4 seater back seat was an additional option. I don't know how the C43's rear seat was set, but I think they came as 4- and 5-seater as well. The picture below is taken from my car that has a 1996 C36AMG interior. greetingz,

The Sports seating on the Sportline Package w124 cars in the US shows a 4 seat arrangement in the pics under the "cars" tab above. I wish I had them - I never need to carry 5 people. Of course, you could always find a nice w124 300E and the folks in PartsShop will help you SportLine the car, probably for less total $ than a C36 or 43! Or find a nice 500E and buy the same color rear seats from a 400E. They swap out in about 10 minutes! (keep the old 500E seats, though, for re-sale value on the collectible 500E!!!)

I thought of replacing the rear seat of a 500E with the rear seat of another W124 sedan, but I wonder if the 500E is US DOT rated to be a 4 seater or 5 seater. It sure looks like there are only 4 belt sets. Adding a center lap belt adds a few more fasteners to the job of replacing the seat, but it could be a sticky insurance situation. I don't know if it's a simple matter to recertify the car.
I should give up the hot rodding dreams and 'settle' for an S500 Thanks, Sixto 78 450SEL 91 300SE |
