Stupid Move with Transmission

To all knowledgeable people (and chemical engineers if you happen to be one):

What are the consequences of putting about 3-4 tablespoons of Mobil 1 5W-30 into the trans. The rest of the trans is filled with Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF. I checked the spec sheets at Mobil1.com and there are certain similarities in the fluid characteristics.......I think....and I hope. Thanks. Of course, I was changing out the ATF and filter.

i am not

a chemical engineer but i can t imagine that it would be much of a problem in that small quantity.

Did you do it accidentally or did you do it on purpose to see what ,if anything, would happen?

I wouldn't expect any significant or noticable problems.

Accidentally. I had just changed the motor oil earlier in the day and was finishing the day by changing the ATF and filter. I had a bottle of the motor oil still sitting around. The bottles happen to be exactly the same shape except the cap on one is black and the other is gray. Of course, I had mentally noted to myself to be careful about that earlier in the day....

I haven't noticed any difference in shifting other than it being a little smoother and quieter due to the new filter and fluid (I would assume). Apparently motor oil will expand rubber seals a little but I'm hoping the amount of motor oil added was immaterial.

will not do anything to the transmission, in 1986 when the AXOD transmissions were introduce in Ford Taurus, they would fry the planetarys, because of a lube and cooling problem, we learned how to address these problems by drilling bigger lube holes, valve body and plate modifications, as an added protection I filled the transmission totally with. Mobil one engine oil, they shifted fine and lasted with no customer complaints

Buses

Transmissions in buses can accept ATF or Engine Oil. Allison transmissions can go both ways, I would think automotive transmissions can do the same. At the very small quantity you put there, you will be fine. Enjoy your Benz :D

To All: Thanks for the insight and assurances. I appreciate it.
