92" 300E Oil Pressure

Hi,
I have a 92" 300E that when I start it cold the oil pressure gauge goes up to the number 3. After the car warms up it goes down to 0 and stays there. I am almost certain that it did this since I changed the oil. Before when the engine was hot and in idle, it would read 0, but if the RMP's went over 1000 it would climb to 2 or 3. I have opened the lid on the engine were you pour the oil and all the valves and everything inside is covered with oil so it has pressue....it's just not reading it!!!!!!! I did put some 10W 40 on the car. when I changed the oil......not that it should matter!!!!!"I think".

Does it sound good running at 0-bar?

yeah it does, no lifter problem or nothing, really quiet engine

Classic case of pressure sending unit failure. BUT, have the pressure checked with an external gauge.

ok, is the pressure sending unit like the one on other cars....or is this one like $200.00....like everything else on this car!!!!!

I have been driving Mercedes automobiles for many years. I was surprised to find that MB parts are no more expensive, in general, than other automobiles. They used to be, but everyone else caught up.

And....I think we have a troll in our presence.

Don't buy that one, mine failed in one day. The VDO unit for $70 is the only good one. I've had mine on for years now and it works great.

Falling to 0 at idle is indeed the classic sender failure.
