1995 C280

hi!

I am having a problem with my 1995 C280 , sometimes it cranks but dosent start, i hear the fuel pump working but i took one of the wires off one of the coils and i got no spark when i crancked!! so it;s spark related i am pretty sure. has anyone had a similar problem?

Has the wiring harness been replaced -- this is a warrenty thing, I think (bad insulation)?

Otherwise, likely a bad TDC sensor (rear of engine) or a bad ignition unit, possibly bad coil(s) or wires.

i dont get spark at any coil, so its not the coils .. what are the chances of all the coils going at once, would the TBC sensor cause no spark? how about the crank sensor? and what part of the harness goes? what area should i look for a bad harness wire?

Overvoltage protection relay (or something like that).

If the wiring harness is bad and has not yet been replaced, the chances are slim of getting a goodwill replacement from Mercedes anymore.

That is also a possible..
Next time it does not start, give the OVP a few taps with a screwdriver handle and retry,,
Both of these items effect ignition, so either will have the same symptoms..............
The crank sensor can be detected with a scope, but that will take a Tech.
