Oil Pan Leak M112 Engine
Looks like the oil pan gasket has failed on my '98 E320. MB used RTV rather than a standard gasket, correct? Can't locate the torque specs for the oil pan bolts anywhere. Any assistance greatly appreciated. The job looks pretty straightforward. Any "surprises" to watch out for?

One thing to watch for is on the sealing edge of of the pan. There is 2 spots I believe where a circular "notch" is compromising most of the width of the sealing edge. You want to use A LOT of sealer in that area or you will be doing the job twice. Oh and use the mercedes 'black death" sealer.

5900 sealer.
they make a really cool little gun to apply the sealer. it is a speacial tool, but most dealers have them in stock. It looks like a mini caulking gun, but better quality. Also make sure you let the car drip oil over night since it could drip on your mating surface right as you are ready to bolt the pan on. |
