Stumbles when reverse selected

Hello,

My 1989 300ce stumbles when i put it in reverse. Anybody had that problem.
Ok, in drive.

From what i saw in the wiring book there is a connection to the CIS that comes from the gear selector? I thought this was only when you select drive however.

Any thoughts

Brian

I remember reading about a wire on the neutral safety switch which can cause an engine stumble. I would start the car on a lift , then disconnect the wire harness form the neutral safety switch, then select reverse and see what happens. You need to put a load on the engine, the car has to be on the ground.
