How do I contact a "factory rep" (wiring harness)?
 

94 C280 at the MB dealer right now. Likely, a wiring harness will be the diagnosis after my reading (intermittent starting issues).

Anyway, the word is to speak with a factory rep concerning a repair under the goodwill policy. My 94 only has 55k miles.

Help anyone?

ONLY a dealer can contact MB Rep...OF course you can call MB in NJ & register a complaint.. JUST realize you are asking for something that they are going to deny...& the nicer you are the better chance you might succeed!

Am I better off to mention the goodwill and offer to pay for the labor all at the same time instead of risking a full decline?

Also, my 280 has the battery in the trunk. To DIY -- does the harness have to go to the trunk, or is there a master connection still in the engine bay?

The harness is connected to the ENGINE only....Goes from the computer to related sensors, injectors, coils....solenoids AT the upper engine area.

Doubt that you have any goodwill success....less than 1%

One question, though: What if I have maintenance records going back to the 90s with recommendations from THIS DEALERSHIP that the original owner replace the wiring harness. This is from the same dealership the car is at now and was purchased from.

Would you suggest I buy it from the dealer or TRY to find it elsewhere?

Hey if you get a goodwill credit for a harness job, I will ask the people of greece to induct you as a god of mercedes harnesses...lol

Listen, my car is 1 owner, always maintained from dealer, all records, and they looked at me like I was stupid for asking for good will on my harness...even a discount seemed stupid of me to mention. North Vancouver mercedes deny's any sort of problem ever occuring with a mercedes wire harness. Mean while, after a long time of missed diogz by them, an indy told me that these car's came with enviro friendly wire harnesses which were meant to degrade over time. He showed me his parts computer and how the orignal part was no longer possible to order, and a new improved part had superceeded the previous harness.

I then contacted mercedes canada with my discovery and proof. They told me such a case had never come up, and they had no idea where I had come up with this claim from. When I pointed out the part's numbers and the old harness not being possible to order, I was told that over time, newer replacement parts do eventually change part numbers.... No credit, of discount, the problem simply does not exist and is normal wear and tear.


So I would love to see what response you get and the out come. Please share.

My outcome was 3000 dollars, for wrong north van mercedes diags, and indy mechanic diags time, part, and labour.....

Please take the time to file a complaint with NHTSA; they are currently investigating this safety defect.

it's no use, why would mercedes care about old car's? their in the business to sell new car's.... They don't have to care about what happens in 10 years, since the average lease and business client that makes them their money turnsover his mercedes within 3 years, and that's the customer you want to keep. THey care about that person first, and perhaps only...

I wish you the best of luck with getting a goodwill repair, but as stated above on a car that old, you are going to have close to a 0% chance of succeeding.
