AC Leak Sealant
 

Has anyone here used (successfully, or not) an AC leak sealant to attempt and seal an evaporator leak? Did it work? Did it cause any damage to the AC system. How big was the original leak? What did you use?

My brother has an 83 300D and the used car dealer we bought it from admitted to me using leak stop on the A/C system (we have a pretty good relationship with him and he is "on the level"). It lasted for 4+ years and finally gave up the ghost recently. We are going to do it again for this year's A/C season and hope it will work for a while longer. Eventually we will have to break down and find the source of the leak. Your mileage may vary. Depending on the size of the leak it might work and might not. A friend of mine had a car that's Reciever drier had rusted a hole in it. When we tried the leak stop needless to say we realzied the leak was a big bigger than we anticipated when ice crystals started blowing out from under the bumper. The unit was easy to replace and we were able to get the system charged again. I have heard of some people making an expensive mess inside their A/C system with the stuff by using it too frequently for big leaks. Im sure its those people who wake up on a hot day and put a can of leak stop into their system before driving to work though. :)
