Question Where to get a 722.366 in Florida ?

A fellow member had his transmission go kaput on his '93 E400 (722.366 trans.)

Question is, where can he get a rebuilt unit in Florida?

We both have read posts about trans. rebuilders....but... they are on the other side of the country.
There has got to be somebody in Fla. that can do a decent rebuild on a transmission (preferably an exchange deal, so he is not w/o transportation for 10 days).

I will be watching this thread not only to see if there are any recommendations, but also so I know for my self, since I have the same trans. in my E420, and naturally, it's got me worried now.

btw: He has no reverse gear - it seems to engage, but there is no movement, unless you give it some gas...then it lurches back-as soon as you let off the gas (for fear of taking off too fast) it acts like it "locks up" ...as if the parking brake were engaged, or someone threw it in Park.

Thanks for your time

-Larry

I would try this place for a used trans:

Potomac German Auto South
550 State Road 207
St. Augustine, FL 32084
Phone: (888) 852-8680

Can't recommend a rebuilding place. Sorry

Appears they have one in MD from an E420 for 575 (plus shipping)

hey, fellas,

I'm the poor soul that needs the tranny.

Sun Valley Wrecking in CA has given me a price of $1250 for a rebuilt. It comes with a torque converter. No core charge for the rebuilt and shipping will be $225 to FL. THEY pay to have the old one shipped back to CA. It comes with a 2 yr warranty.

Do you guys think that is a good deal? Also, do you think I need a torque converter?

Thanks, Frank

If your transmission ate itself it would be Very wise to put a 'new/reman' tq in. Properly flushing it w/o the correct machine or separating the halves is difficult.

Also, be SURE you run a can or two of brake clean through your AT cooler. I would remove the lines and flush them separately. I usually cap one end of the cooler and spray in chlorinated brake clean until it's coming back out the uncapped end. I'll then cap that and let it sit for a few minutes. Blow it out w/ compressed air and repeat the process a few times. Ideally you would like to pull the rad and do it outside of the car but that does add to the cost/time factor.

As for the transmission place, I know a fellow here who used them and he had one good experience and one PITA one... On the not so pleasant experience he had to drop the valve body and send it back to them.

Can't comment on the overall longevity as he only has about 10K max on the 1st box and half that on the 2nd.

These guys at Adsit in Indiana have a rebuilt RT-722.366 at a "Sale Price" of $1195. They advertise,
Quote:
Rebuilt Transmissions are DYNO TESTED and come with a one year unlimited mileage warranty or a two year unlimited mileage warranty with the purchase of a torque convertor.

Good luck!

"Adist" and "good Luck" are phrases I often hear together in the same breath;-)

My last Adsit box started shifting Strange after about 9K.

Well, I have done it!

I just got off the phone with Sun Valley and have ordered a reman/rebuilt. Gonna take a few days to get it ready and a few days to get here. (not to mention a few days for my independent mech to put it in)

Crossing my fingers! Wish me luck!

Thanks for your help fellas.

Where to get a 722.366 in Florida ?

Frank, were you satisfied with your purchase? Did you find a local company in Florida that you should have used instead? Thanks for the info.
