I was told that when you have a key ignition go bad there is a part you can buy that slides into the old ignition to eliminate high cost. Is this a tumbler or is this called something else. Because ov3er the phone mercedes wants to send me a tumbler. Is this what i want? IF anyone has replaced theirs before give me some hints please. THank you
mike

Does the key still turn the ignition and steering lock? If it does the tumbler can be fairly easily removed with a couple special tools. If the thing no longer moves it is a big problem.

With the key turned to the proper position a pin can be inserted that releases the collar which then can be unscrewed to release the tumbler. The tumbler can be ordered to match the original locks or can be changed to a workshop version for emergencies.

No the ignition no longer accepts the key without serious wiggling. However once in it will turn easily. It did lock up once but with a pair of pliers it easily came undone and now it turn easily again. I need the part that will take a new key i thought that you could buy a core that slides into the old ignition plus a new key and you dont have to buy an entire ignition.
Thanks MIKE

Since your key still turns all you need is a new tumbler. If you want a matching key the tumbler can be ordered with a matching code.

Just turn the key to the proper position and insert the release pin and unscrew the black barrel. The tumbler will come out with it.
