Guys, I just changed my distributor cap and rotor a few days ago. In the process of this, will it affect my timing? It seemed as if the replacement was pretty harmless: swapping parts. Must I check it for timing? My car runs a lot smoother now. I have an '85 190E 2.3. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Happy Driving, Vu |
As far as I understand, and anyone please correct me if I am wrong, it will not affect your timing.

you are correct in your view that replacing the dist cap will not change timing, the only way timing could be changed via the dist cap is by rotating it along with the distributor itself at least as far as i know (im more familiar with domestics and definately not a tech)

Pilot, you are right, its only the twisting of the actual distributor that will mess up the timing, replacing the cap and arm wont make any difference to the timing.
