Mobil 1 Extended Performance oil
 

Hi,
Is it great news or what? Question, should I use this type of oil for my ML320 year 2002? I does save the time and sweat to go underneath of the car. Please advise. Thanks:D

Manny, I just went to the site and inputted the information for my 2001 E320 and it correctly recommended Mobil 1 0W-40. When I inputted the information for my 1991 300TE it recommended Mobil 1 0W-30 for above 0 deg. C. Yikes!! I wouldn't use that in this vehicle on a dare. I wonder why the site wouldn't recommend Mobil 1 15W-50 for my car which would be in line with MB's original viscosity requirements? With all the recent talk about big oil being in collusion with each other, maybe they are conspiring with MB to sell more vehicles by causing old MB's to expire :greedy: Mark

Mobil 1 Extended performance is not approved by Mercedes, at least not yet. Mobil 1 15-W50 is approved but I think its now been discontinued in the US. Its still available in Canada. Mobil 1 0W40 Is approved by Mercedes, and is the BEST year - round oil to us for your car. It meets Mercedes' highest standards as applicable to your car.

"Approval by Mercedes" occurs when the oil company submits a sample for and pays for the testing.

Oil change interval on most 2006 Mercedes is 13k miles (including break in oil) which is pretty "extended" IMHO.

If that the case, I am driving ML320..I will approve for it. That the way all business conducting now a day...either you have connection from ML so Mobil will have a easy approve ( Mobil same way) otherwise time will tell. or when they can smell more profit...it will have an approve from either side as an eye blink :D I had been work very close with German company and do know how they worked. Did couple research on the new oil ...."Mobil 1 Extended performance" the result very impressive.
One question...about AMSOIL...it seem very good but it is not at the regular store such as pepboy, autozone, etc...Don't know why? if you do please give me some light here. ( not Budlight).:P

c/o the new oil (2days ago) from same car ML320 ( Mobil 1 0W-40) and use the new one " Mobil 1 Extended performance 15W-50 " ...test drive from LA to Long Beach and go up to Santa Ana then go back home.... the Car does feel BIG diff:eek: when you accelerate... Engine less noise;) and speed up faster.:D
bought two cases , used 8 Qts and it cost Total $84.31 @ Kragen. I love it. This is just my 3 cents feedback to let all of you know.:cool: will run this til 15000 miles then I may try to AMSoil They claimed their is better than Mobil 1. Only one thing it is trouble me is I can buy 'em from stores. I have to order and pay for shippment( which I don't like) .

I own a Mercedes & BMW shop in Mandeville, La. (North Of Lake Pontchatrain) Well because we live across the longest bridge in the world (Causeway) We get to see some pretty high mileages (580,000 is one that comes to mind)
This extended service A-B now A-B-C-D is such crap. Worse is BMWs 15,000 intervals. We have BMW oil pans on display with 45K on them with 1/2 inch of TAR in the bottom (I'll send pics to the unbelievers)
Why do you think we have problems with MB oil level sensors.
CHANGE THE FREAKING OIL ALLREADY. We have our customers service A every 5K and its still black.
I have had this conversation with numerous lubrication engineers and they all agree "Your not changing the oil because its broke down/Your changing it to remove all the combustion by-products, sulfer, carbon, acid. If there was a way of doing this and then putting the additives packages back in the OIL WOULD LAST FOREVER.
Also a word on this light as baby oil engine oil.
In a recent phone teleconference (that I didn't want to be in) with the BMW factory, Peake BMW (New Orleans BMW dealer) and the husband & wife of a 06 BMW X5. The dealer wanted to install their thin Quaker State and told the customer I was STEALING their money because I was telling the customer "Don't go more than 5K & change with Mobile 1 15W50"
To my total amazement the factory sided with me (on the viscosity only / due to our 95+ temps with 100% humidity)
Well I'll get off my soapbox now. Besides the class action lawsuits will prove me right ie; Lexus, Mercedes and it can't come soon enough for BMW

P.S. How about "Lifetime Transmissions" Lifetime instead of 250,000 lets try 65,000 and time for a NEW one. That ill keep them buying BMWs & Benzs

Greg, I'm with you. I change mine every 5-6K on all my cars and let MB do it under the service plan that came with my 2004 MB at 10K. I still use 0W-40 Mobil 1 in the '04 since it is under warranty but you can bet it will be 15W-50 once the warranty expires. I would be willing to bet that 0W is specified for EPA fuel mileage purposes only. Further, I could never understand a 0W-30 being specified for any vehicle that lives in the SE or SW, especially as a year 'round fill. I wonder if the 15W-50 Mobil 1 (now discontinued) contains more ZDDP and phosphorus (anti-wear agents which are being reduced or phased out courtesy of the EPA) than Ow-40, hence the non-approval by MB. I know that Mobil 1 10W-50 was/is available in Europe and approved by MB. For the average person, oil and filter changes every 5K are cheap enough to perform and a smart practice to ensure engine longevity. Mark

We also tell our pre '05 customers to get their "FREE" oil service every 15k (after all free is good)
As for 15W50 not being in production, the Beaumont,TX. plant was damaged in Katrina (the only plant putting 15W50 in quarts)
We buy on the average four 55 gallon drums a month. So they are not discontinuing the 15/50, although they upped the price and added the retarded "extended preformance/15,000mi." crap

Guys, I thinks this's the way of future and it will happen either you like it or not. And why it is happenning now... this will reduce waste and save money. For EX: GE transportation have been doing that to reduce the amout of waste engine oil, labor and money....I do have record for that. ( Looks for AC locomotive with 6000HP). So, it is happenning now in CAR industrial. it is slow ( after 8 years from what GEtrans did) but it is happenning.
Guess what? when it happens...I am sure alot of car service shop will have to close due to overhead cost too high and no customer come in for service as much as before. Looks around and do more research you then will see the cycle is changing now. Looks, who would think all software job shipped to Indian :silly: and all hardware job shipped to China???.:D Also, who would think now the Mid class can drive MB and student can drive BMW???? out there ...

I noticed that 15W50 is not available even here in Canada except for remaining stock. The 15W50 replacement is 5W50. At first I thought it was a misprint but apparently not. It is MB 22X.XX approved.
