I would like to provide more support to PartsShop, but have been reluctant to place an order because of uncertainty re customs and shipping hassles (free trade?).

Would appreciate hearing the experiences of Canadians who have placed orders, particularly regarding custom clearance and shipping costs. (Yeh I know, with the $Cdn going down the toilet it's getting increasingly expensive.)

I would love to get my parts from PartsShop as well however cross border shopping can get a bit pricy. Shipping charges, duties, taxes, and then the exchange rate. UPS charges less for shipping however they charge "brokerage fees" for doing the customs paperwork (what a rip-off). FedEx is more expensive but no extra fees. For actual duties and taxes you have to call Customs Canada. It can get painful. Too bad 'cause the prices are attractive.

I too have been wanting to order some parts from PartsShop, but have yet not because I have the same concerns as you. PartsShop has some great prices, even with the crappy exchange rate. Recently my brother ordered some shoes from the US and they cost 40-some American dollars and when they arrived he had to pay a $30 Canadian for the brokerage charge. What ever happened to free trade???

Is UPS and FedEx the only options, can't it be shipped by the US Postal Service?

No thanks to the dollar exchange, eh!
But did you know that MB parts or for
that matter cost of goods are cheaper
in Canada than the states? Cross border
shopping now favors Canada!! Free trade
only covers American, Canadian and Mexican
made goods.

Despite our low dollar,it's still cheaper to buy parts from the US.
I have ordered parts from IPD re my Volvo and found that:
1.Canadian customs usually does not charge duty cos of NAFTA.They dont know where where most parts are made.IPD also didnot tell them.So its assumed it's made in USA-no duty.
2.However you do have to pay GST,and lately in Ontario, pay PST.
3.Canada post(ship by US Postal S)charge only a $5 Can.brokerage fee.
4.According to UPS's Canadian site,if you ship EXpress or Express Plus, they dont charge Brokerage fee.
