i have a 1987 560 sel my o2 sensor light kept coming on and the car would hesitate,,,my mechanic replaced the o2 sensor and i'm still having the same problem,,,i spoke to a technician that told me i had to reset the computer in the car to unhook the negitive battery cable for about 1 minute,,,i did this and the problem is still there,,,now he tells me that i have to manually go in and reset the computer
and my mechanic says there is nothing in his manual that tells him that he has to do this and doesnt know how to do this,,,does this make sense to you,,,any help would be appreciated,,,

87/560sel

Benz4me,

You may not want this information, but here goes. I bought my '87-560SEL 12 years ago (28,000 miles), and still under warrantee. The O2 sensor would come on after driving for 35 minutes. The engine would go into "limp mode", but would run properly after shut down and restart.

The final diagnosis was a faulty computer that would improperly reset the engine, thus lighting the O2 sensor.

The computer was replaced (under warrantee), and no problems since; 156,000 miles and still as strong as "new". Hope you find a cheaper solution.
