Wagon Forum?

A suggestion has been made to create a new forum just for station wagons. What do you think?

trueog 05-07-2006 06:05 PM

I think people who post in station wagan threads will be last to get helped. Most people hang out in the tech section or other sections where people with these car's can get their questions answered. Since there are so few mercedes station wagons, most people will ignore the thread and those who post there will only be helped out when someone is really bored and wonders over there. My 2 cents, personally I don't care, just saying its not the most effiecent thread to add.

I think a 140 forum would be better.

Wagons are really an extension of sedans, other than tailgate issues the cars are similar, forums for models makes more sense. there have been only 3 wagon series that really apply.

I have to agree - I think it makes more sense to have forums for different models (W123, W124, W201, etc.) than one for each type of car (saloon, coupe, estate, and so on).

There is no love for the wagon!!!

I think that there is some wagon specific stuff that would be cool to keep in one place. Not only that, but I feel it would be a good place for people to ask, share, or alert people with information pertaining to the wagon!

Two of my cars are 124s, a wagon and a sedan. I agree forums for different models would be nice.

Peter, I disagree. A wagon is more than just a sedan with a big trunk and a tailgate! Just like a coupe is more (or less) than a sedan with two fewer doors.

Suspension, for one, is different in a wagon. There are other differences as well.

Benz has been officially building wagons since 1977. Before that, there was a finny-based wagon. That was a custom job, sanctioned by Benz, but built by a different body/coach maker (in Belgium I believe).

There are W123 wagons, there are W124 wagons, there are W210 and W211 wagons and there are W203 wagons.

Wagons have a large following and wagon owners are just as fanatical (or crazy, as the caew may be) as SL owners, or owners of any of the othe r"specialty" Benzes.

I think it would be a lot of fun to have a wagons only section. If people post in the wagon area with a problem and do not get an answer to their question, they can always go to the other sections.

Try it it for a couple of months, if it does not work, then kill it....

Come on Webmaster, feed our addiction for wagons (see my gallery). :D

Yes, there are indeed many fanatical Wagon owners. I think I am getting there, as I have a decently modded one. It would be cool to have a place for wagon owners to share info on their cars, and share the mods they have done to their cars. I know of at least 5 people on this board who have "Modded" wagons who would love to see something like this. I am a fanatic of the SL series, and I am a bigger Wagon fanatic, as it is the perfect balance of cruiser and hauler!!! What else can you load 7 people into, get 23 mpg, and have the strinking good looks of a Mercedes-Benz??? Cmon people, I am dying to see somthing like this happen.

As LGB said, lets try it, and see how it goes. It is better to have tried, than to have not tried at all.

And by the way, a sedan is a wagon, minus the rear "5th door hatch", and third row seats with windows!! :P

see the MBCA forums!

Sure, I think it makes sense to create a separate wagon forum... but even MORE sense to create chassis specific forums. The MBCA forums are an EXCELLENT example. It seems far more logical to me, and makes searching for specific topics easier.

Seems to me there is far less activity on the MBCA forums than on Mercedessshop.... which is even more reason that I think the MBCA forum organization method makes even MORE sense here. It is designed to handle high posting numbers with the benefit of making it less chaotic for owners to search and post on specific topics. its LOGICAL.

Not that I dont LOVE mercedesshop forums... I wouldnt be here everyday if it werent for the info this comunity has to offer!

Veloce's point is well-taken.

One wagon equals = TWO votes

While it's true the wagon owners can get many questions answered in tech. or general discussion forums, I would be inclined to let them have a separate forum too, if they understood it might not be as heavily frequented.

In the poll, though, for vote counting purposes, I think each wagon owner's vote here ought to be worth TWO votes as to non-wagon owners getting one vote.

There ARE differences between wagons and sedans beyond the tailgate and, as an owner of both a w210 and w124 wagon, I can appreciate this more than most. BUT I've been able to find info by searching or get responses to posts I've put up about various problems in the tech section (leaks in the back, accumulators, hydrostrut level system) so I say nice but not a requirement.
