connection to dist. caps

help, just changed dist caps on my 94 E500. GOOFY ME, i did not mark down wiring order of dist caps. appreciate for schematic of distributor caps.thanx

ph7, if you're using Bosch distributor caps the terminal numbers are marked with left and right designations. If the new caps aren't marked go to thebenzbin.com and search under 1994 MB, E500, Engine Electrical, Distributor Cap. Enlarge the thumbnail of the Bosch distributor cap so you can read the terminal markings.

thanx for the info. i did that, but which wire from pass side to DRIVER cap or vice versa? help. this is a cool sight. my first time as a user. thanx a million.

I believe the DIY points out that the right side of the engine is on the right if you are sitting in the car. If you are standing in front of the car athen the right side is on your left. The dist caps have a R/L on each connection post along with the wire /cylinder #. depending whether its the right or left. If your wires are numbered then connect that number to the number on the cap depending if it is on left or right.

Example: one post will say R4 and L5, so if you are connecting the right side of the engine wires then the number 4 cylinder wire goes on this post

Gary, in diy does not show on passenger side will connect which wire number like 1-4-7-6 or vice versa. i changed the whole set of wires, just do not know on passenger dist cap which wire to plug in with? now ASR light is on? how do i reset it? thanx. ph7

Ok I'm not 100% positive on this but your manual should show the firing sequence of the cylinders. If you standing in front of the car then the left side is 5--8 front the front and the right side is 1-4 from the front. If the firing order is 1-5-4-8-6-3-7-2 then the wire from #1 would go on the L 1 connection on the right side dist cap, then the #2 on the L 2 and so on. Its confusing because when facing the car the right side is actually the left

The cylinders are numbered like so:

4_______8
3_______7
2_______6
1_______5
Front of car

The passenger side cap is 1-4-6-7

The driver's side cap is 5-8-3-2

hi deanyel, passenger side wires from eng marking are 1-4-6-7 none of these would goes to driver cap? thanx

deanyel 05-12-2006 06:34 PM

No, each cap goes to 4 cylinders and the center wire goes to its own coil. There are two coils on the front driver's side.
