I won't doing 90 for a while. One more ticket and my drivers license is suspended. Its going to be tough when I get my motorcycle out in a few weeks. I have gotten more tickets in my Mercedes Benz than My 85 Mustang GT 5.0 H.O 5 speed being used as a daily driver. Does that suprise anyone. It suprises the hell out of me,I thought I grew up a few years ago.

On the autobahn in Germany in areas where there is not heavy traffic, the normal flow of traffic is often 90 or 100 MPH. These cars were designed for that cruise speed. 100MPH in most MB's is like sitting in your easy chair.

Have a great day,

I drove my MB way over the speed limit once ... and got tracked at 140 km/p AFTER much heated braking.

Anyway, got away with it. Dont ask how.

when i was test-driving my car before i bought it, i noticed that the gas pedal was more upright than most other cars, and thought that it might unncessarily strain my right foot.

Then, cruising on the highway, it all made sense: at 130k (81mph), the right foot on the gas is at the same plane as the left foot on the dead pedal, both in the relaxed position. This, with the large steering wheel which puts your arms straight ahead of your shoulders (instead of angled inwards), makes for a very relaxed position, ideal for long-distance driving at speed. Moreover, the 130kph marker/speedo needle near the 12:00 position, as if it were optimized for that speed.

The seats are another revelation. They are firm, but after 4hrs of driving continuously, i noticed the absence of any backstrain.

a shortcoming though of the W201 is the wind noise and susceptibility to sidewinds.

pedal to the metal!

You need to get an attorney to fix your speeding tickets for you. It works for me. Otherwise I wouldnt have a license now, lol.

I can beleive you about the mustang. MBs are not that great at high speeds. Sports cars handle better.

If you slam on the brakes in a MB sedan stock, you will slide, etc. plus the response is not as good.

Thats my experience with MB and speeding. I only gotten 1 ticket with a porsche 944, and ford probe combined, both cars i speed faster and more than a mb.

The handleing, etc. is truely differnt

JDUB,
Take care and good luck with your struggle to keep the ownership over your own driving license (I had to hand over my license last year after a minor speeding fine...and had to use a bicycle for 12 days!!!).

LarryBible,
Don't forget to watch your mirror when driving those kinds of speeds; there are a lot of faster driving cars on the german "autobahn".

Personally I like cruising at 160-170km/h (100-110mph) with my C250D; that speed is just perfect!

greetingz,

MBenz,

Yes, I know about the mirror. I lived in Germany for two years when I was young and drove a lot. I was playing baseball all over Germany and went to a different city every two or three days. By the time I was 22, I had driven about 4 times as many miles on German autobahns as I had driven in the US.

I developed some very good driving habits from this including watching the mirror alot. It also made me a very frustrated driver in the US because so many people want to cruise in the left lane and prevent other cars from passing. The German autobahn is not as good as it used to be in this regard, but it is much better than American highways.

Have a great day,

talking about backroads, also be extra watchful for
wildlife. last year while doing 180 kph i hit a
farm dog. that is about 1200 dollars lesson learned.

If we were to be driving in our rural country areas (locally known as "kampungs"), and if we were to hit a chicken (you may also read "farmdog") belonging to a fmaily living there - local custom dictates that we are obliged to buy another chicken to replace the killed one.

But we rarely see this happening now coz the new highway runs express from A to B and no longer through kampungs.

ymsin: you know the next morning after the accident,
i went to my local police in the hope of tracking down
the owner of that dog and to summon him to court.
i had twice before narrowly missed hitting that dog, it
is accident waiting to happen. and it happened!! dogs
must be on leash, the owner is negligent. yeah, i know
i was also speeding.

I had a nice 10 minutes of 100 mph rock solid crusing today, the car loved it and begged for more, but for fear of being pulled over, I decided not to push it.

Of course, I was having some fun with a lexus LS400 who was trying so hard to stay with me. fortunately for me, my car is much more nimble at that speed, and he was not able to keep up. hehe.

Hi Joel - if we ever hit a Kampung Chicken - there wouldn't be enough time to make a police report! The local residents would crowd around your car, unless you were spending and in which case, a brother's brother-in-law's friend of a sister of the local kampung would have had a police relative track you down

Talk of local customs. I would think this may not be the same it did was 30 years ago, but still a remote possibility in some remote areas.

So - whats the outcome of your case?

Tell me about it!! I just drove up to the Palm Springs late last night with hardly anyone on the road. Driving 100 a majority of the time. There's a section on the 60 before the 10 FWY where the road curves and goes up a hill and winds all over. In 3rd gear the car just purred and yearned for more! But I did not want to go over a cliff so I had to be a little sane. NO FAIR! But a very nice drive and I made a 2 hour drive in an hour and 15 minutes!

yeah, our cars need a good work once in a while.
uphill climb will definely be a challenge for both
driver and car.

ymsin - i decided not to pursue the case. the cost
of preparation and process of litigation outweighed
the perceived benefit.
