Exclamation factory cloth wiring harness tape

i just wanted to post this for those uf us who like the original look of the mercedes wiring harnesses. there is nothing more annoying that to see where a harness was "repaired" then covered with the plastic looking 3m electrical tape. mercedes has a special cloth tape available that looks really nice. just wanted to share the part number 006-989-84-85-10 pricing can vary $10.00- $20.00 per roll. i am sure phil can order it for you.

Thanks, I will order a roll when I go to the dealer next week.

I want to keep it looking original, wondering where to get that stuff.

Gaffer tape

Try using Gaffer tape. It can be purchased at any film production supply place.

It's the stuff used to tape wires down to a floor when filming/lighting an area so people don't trip. The idea is they can remove it from anything and it won't pull up the surface or paint, nor will it leave any residue.

It's quite sticky on one side and the other side "feels" like fabric (not sure if it is or not)

I bought a 1/2" wide roll 3 years ago and still have a ton left. It works great as a replacement for factory cloth tape on wiring harnesses, but also works to quiet squeeks in hidden areas or to fix a leaky weatherstrip (apply to metal where weatherstrip touches)

Saw something interesting the other day in a marine catalog..... It was called "liquid electrical tape"....... When I saw it I instantly thought of some poor schmuck with an engine wiring harness slathering that stuff all over it and making a mess..... But for small piece of cracked insulation it might be good.... Expecially covered over with some fabric tape......
