Need to replace Head Gasket on 109E 2.6L

Some one who works for my dad has a 1992 109E 2.6 and its head gasket is leaking. They asked if I could fix it. I have never had or worked on a benz before so I know nothing about them. Im guessing from the year that its a inline six and sohc?

Im just asking if anyone knows where a good how-to is. Or just how hard is it on these cars? I don't REALLY need a how-to since I've changed all of my cars hg's when ever I get them along with all the other seals except on my K20, I get my buddy to do that. But the thing is I only know how to time a sohc car so if its dohc Im basically screwed.

Also with all my other head gaskets they cost between $60-$100 and the bolts for ARP's are about $4.50 each. Mainy problem is I'll probably have to change the cam seal, valve cover, valves, valve seals and probably a **** load of other stuff once I get the head off. Another question is can I just use a timing gun to time the car? Or will it be a bastard?

Thanks for any help you can give me.

The car has what's known as an M103 engine and is SOHC as you suspect.

My advise would be to use this sites "Search" facility for this one. There are hundreds of threads with good info.

The documentation for this car is online at:

Yea I started searching right after I made this thread. I just wanted to get it out incase some one knew of a good link to a how to. But thanks for the clarification on the engine.
