When A/C is not working everything is perfectly normal. With the A/C on, idle is normal, however it intermittently stalls (happened twice today) when slowing down for red lights, traffic, etc. Any similar experience or cure for this?

I would look for vacuum leaks first.

Isn't there an idle speed controller to raise the idle speed slightly when the AC is on?

Hmm, i don't seem to have any vacuum leaks, rechecked all lines once again. The rpm increases slightly when the a/c is turned on so that works alright too.
