Broken front springs, mechanic says it's okay!
While changing front wheel bearings, front brake discs, moonlighting (home -garage)certified-Mercedes mechanic noticed that the front coil springs (lowest coil but only half of one cir cle on both sides accoding to him)are broken.
He informed me that he's turned the coil springs accordingly on both sides to seat them properly and that it's okay not to change them.I've been using it for 6 months now.He said that the front may be sitting at most 1 cm lower. Recently I've installed new rear Bilstein Comfort shocks and noticed the front is sitting a bit lower(NATURALLY LOWERED SPRINGS) Is it really Ok to drive with half a coil lower on both sides?Or should I change them with the Lesjfor supplied by Worldpac?

I have cut about that much off the front coils on two of my cars with no ill effects, so I don't see where you should have a problem.

i havent cut any but i dont see that it is a big deal. the worst it would seem to me is that you might hit your rubber stops a bit easier.
and with the nose low it will reduce your effective caster in the front end and the car will tend to run a little less staight on the road. tom w

Thanks for replies.
should i ask the mechanic to cut half a coil off the rear stock coil springs????to balance this out and have "lowered springs" all round ,at a convenient time of course now that there seeems to be no urgency

I see no reason to cut the rear springs.
Nothing wrong with a slight front downward rake.
