2001 CLK430 conv. top still inoperative.
I took the car in to a independant Mercedes shop and $300 later they said the top control module was bad. I then went and installed a remanufactured unit as well as a new relay but still nothing works and the light in the top switch is illuminated? Does the module need to be coded to the car? Anything else to check before I go back to the shop?

On my 2000 CLK someone had chopped up a lot of the wiring just to make a mess for whoever bought it. I use alldata and printed out the wiring for the top and there a lot of limit switches that have to be in the right place to make it work. With the connector plug unplugged from the top controler and a ohm meter you can read out whether the switches are closed or not. Most of them go to ground. I use a clip lead with a needle in one end to shove into the connector. The other lead I hook to a ground. Jerry
